Welcome to the blog!

We are two people, one dog and three legs...well technically ten. But this is our story about going through life with some obstacles we have to maneuver and how we go about doing just that! And by the way, our life is fewer obstacles and more awesomeness. Stay tuned for more awesomeness...

The Full Monty

This weekend turned out to be both fun and productive. Carl spent Friday night and Saturday afternoon at the Ann Arbor District Library where his favorite podcast "Jordan, Jesse, Go!" was being recorded. He also enjoyed the improv class they led on Saturday but realized that dorky guys who listen to podcasts may not be the best candidates for good improv. He definitely enjoyed himself!
While Carl was improv-ing, Anna got some super Sabath at home and even cleaned up that jam stain on the fridge shelf.
When Carl got home we went on an outing around midtown to the cool stores like City Bird and Bureau of Urban Living, we even stopped into People's Records who were celebrating record store day with goodies, keg and listening! On our way around town we saw that The Full Monty was playing at the Bonstelle Theatre and decided it would be fun to go see.
We came back at eight for the show and were met with many groups of silver haired ladies ready for some fun;) Carl's face was visibly red, even in the dark theatre and his nervous laughter and half covering of his face made the performance even funnier.
Sunday we rode bikes to church which was a crazy idea cuz at times on our way home the wind was so strong it felt like we were peddling full speed and standing still. But we were glad to spend Sunday night with Carl's parents in out of the cold, wind and yes snow...can you believe it?

DSO and Car trouble

This weekend Carl has been in our nations capital, and I've been here in Detroit. On Friday..well actually Thursday, my car overheated so I had to figure out how to get a rental, get my car to the shop, get the dog to day camp, all before nine when I had to be in Sterling Hts for my last day of my peds rotation. It made me realize that I really cannot do this on my own... And that it's much more fun and simpler with help. What I'm saying is I am so glad that I have Carl to share my life with...the good times and the car broken down for the third time in a month times. Also, it was nice to read that Sandra McCracken's minivan wouldn't start today...so even fairly famous people who sometimes don't seem real have these types of problems. Then on Saturday when I had returned the rental and got into Carl's car to drive up to see his parents the check engine light was on...I cannot win.
Today I attended the free DSO Concert...it made me cry a little at the beginning. It is so nice to have such treasures in a city that people often only call fowl. The beauty and discussion through music was excellent and it felt like we were back in the days when Detroit was one of the most populous cities in the world. They played Dvorsak's New Wonders which I think is an appropriate welcome back concert. They played to a packed house and came back for an encore. I'm sure it gave the musicians tears as well.

Music Filled Weekend!!!

This weekend was fun and busy.
Friday evening and Saturday Morning-Afternoon we drove up to Rochester College for the Global Justice Conference. The Abolitionist Hymnal Project sang and were rockin' out against Human Trafficking. We also heard Theresa Flores discuss her personal experience with Human Trafficking in the, well known to us, city of Birmingham, Michigan in the 1980s. In the morning Bridget Carr, J.D. spoke about her fight as an Attorney against human traffickers and how we can all help by changing the language of society today. If you hear someone talking about the subjectification of women or how great it is that they got this thing at Walmart for so cheap...don't be afraid to speak up and tell them how their actions effect the lives of others. Check out truckersagainsttrafficking.com for a powerful but awful video on how this stuff really happens, across the globe and right in our back yards. It was a powerful conference and it is a privilege to be a part of such an awesome movement with such strong and dedicated individuals.
When we got home on Saturday late afternoon Anna busted out the cello and we played through a few AHP and CTG original songs to see what it would sound like. It'll take a little work since I haven't played the cello since 9th grade but cello and guitar have a unique sound that will be fun to figure out together.
Saturday night we went up to Ferndale to support our friends Rachel Creech and Don Hudson who played at the New Way Bar. Check out some of their stuff Here. They are awesome musicians and we love them!
Lastly, today we got invited by another awesome musician Kate Monaghan, to go to see the Civil Wars play in Ann Arbor at the Ark. It will be an awesome end to a perfectly musical weekend. If you are not familiar you should immediately check them out. They are my new favorite musical group. Look em up: http://www.myspace.com/thecivilwars
